What is License Plating in Business Central?

Handling large volumes of inventory efficiently is one of the biggest challenges in modern warehousing. License Plating (LP) is a method that streamlines operations by grouping inventory into manageable units that can be accounted for and handled with a single scan.

In this blog, you’ll learn what License Plating is, how it works with Tasklet Mobile WMS for Business Central, and how it streamlines warehouse efficiency.

What is License Plating in Warehousing?

License Plating is a warehouse management feature that assigns a unique identifier barcode (LP) to a group of items stored in a form of container such as a pallet, box, or bin.

Instead of handling items individually, the entire container is treated as a single unit. License Plates allow warehouse staff to move, track, and manage inventory more quickly and efficiently with fewer scans.

Key Benefits of License Plating

  1. Faster Warehouse Operations - Move entire pallets or containers with one scan instead of scanning each item individually.
  2. Improved High-Volume Inventory Visibility – Track the location, status, and contents of an entire License Plate in real time.
  3. Reduced Errors – Minimize manual handling and scanning mistakes by working at the container level.
  4. Scalability for Growth – Handle increasing order volumes without adding complexity to your warehouse processes.

What kinds of warehousing operations benefit from License Plating?

Handling large volumes of goods can be overwhelming, often leading to bottlenecks and delays in your warehouse, which can make handling incoming shipments efficiently a real challenge. Warehouses with large areas, such as receiving zones or bulk storage, can greatly benefit from streamlined efficiency and the ability to easily handle inventory. The License Plate Content label allows you to verify the contents of a sealed LP at a glance, ensuring everything is accounted for.

By simplifying the process, you can move goods from the receiving area to storage locations faster, without the usual complexity that comes with processing large shipments. Moving larger quantities of goods is made simpler with License Plating and features such as moving a whole license plate, saving time and energy in the warehouse.
