Mobile WMS for Dynamics NAV

Liberty Mountain boosts warehouse efficiency with Mobile WMS

Increased warehouse efficiency, cost savings, and happier warehouse employees are some of the advantages Liberty Mountain gained from using Tasklet Factory’s Mobile WMS Solution. The company upgraded its ERP system from Dynamics NAV 3.7 to NAV 2009 and had to make a decision whether to redevelop its existing custom-built WMS handheld solution or to implement a ready-made handheld solution integrated with NAV 2009. A new or redeveloped solution was necessary because the company installed the NAV WMS objects when upgrading to NAV 2009.

Grant Brimhall explains: “When we upgraded to NAV 2009 we also installed the NAV WMS objects. Our existing handheld solution had no easy way to make use of this new database structure. Although we gained the ability with the NAV WMS objects to have picks and putaways (as opposed to the previous workflow of picking using the sales order, and putting away using the purchase order) we lost the ability to quickly relocate an item from one bin to another using a handheld. We also lost the ability to do bin lookups or item lookups using a handheld. We knew we wanted these abilities back as quickly as possible. Out of the box, Tasklet Factory’s Mobile WMS supplied these features, and also provided putaways, cycle count, and impromptu item movement functionality without customization and with almost immediate employee adoption”.

Easy to adopt and customize

Liberty Mountain decided to implement Mobile WMS due to the ease of adaptation, low in-house software and hardware maintenance, and the solution’s scalability. Grant Brimhall explains: “The solution was easily implemented at remote sites connected via VPN without any noticeable loss in communication speed. Furthermore, we liked that Mobile WMS is easily customized entirely within NAV. We have made small modifications such as positioning of text on the handheld screen, and changing some of the field output on the screen with absolute ease. Tasklet Factory has a very concise, yet powerful solution built on a solid Windows Mobile platform”.

Quick return on investment

Implementing Mobile WMS has removed tiresome paper based processes and has been a morale booster in the organization. Liberty Mountain expects to expand the solution even further and Grant Brimhall foresees a quick return on the investment: “Our business is experiencing growth over the prior year, and we have reduced the number of staff we plan to hire because of the efficiencies we have gained using the software. We easily expect to recapture our investment within 12 to 18 months, if not sooner” he concludes.
